Jo Kahn OACEP Scholarship
The Jo Kahn OACEP Scholarship was established in 2014 with the goal to recruit and support students whose career goal will provide a path to personal success and economic self-sufficiency.
The Jo Kahn OACEP Scholarship is a $1,000 award issued to the bursar account of the scholarship recipient in two payments, $500 per semester, during the fall semester and spring semester, after proof of enrollment has been received.
About Jo Kahn:
Jo Kahn served as the Coordinator of Career and Employment Information at State Deptartment of CareerTech for 16 years. She worked with the guidance division to bring comprehensive career development information to Oklahomans by assisting in the statewide dissemination and training on OKCIS and OKCareerGuide. For 10 years she served as the Director of the Oklahoma Career Information System.
Jo served as the state advisor to the Oklahoma Association of Career and Employment Professionals from 2001 until 2020. She developed web-based career information and guidance products for the Career and Academic Connections Division and continues to serve on the Board of Trustees of the Alliance of Career Resource Professionals.
In 2017 Jo retired from the State Department of CareerTech, but her legacy continues to make a lasting impact on employment in the state.
Required Application Support Materials:
Essay: 400 - 500 words explaining the candidate's educational and career goals, the education or training plan necessary to achieve these goals; accomplishments, activities, honors, or community service that supports pursuit of goals, why the candidate has chosen this path and should be awarded the scholarship.
Academic Degree or Certificate Description or Plan: precisely matches the goals expressed in the essay and is from a college, university, or technology center catalog showing degree/course requirements.
Transcript(s): unweighted, official, and most recent. Students who are concurrently enrolled in more than one institution must provide unweighted, official, and most recent transcripts from all institutions they are attending.
Reference Letters (2): letters from employers, teachers, or other professionals must display familiarity with the candidate's specific academic/training and career goals as well as the candidate's plans to achieve those goals.
Resume: professional format, specific content, with no proofreading errors, and conducive to hiring.
Deadline: May 4th, 2021
Scholarship Criteria - Applicants must:
Be undergraduates attending or applying to attend an accredited Oklahoma post-secondary institution;
Provide a copy of their degree or certificate plan;
Demonstrate interest in a specific educational program and career outcome;
Provide proof of enrollment in at least six (6) credit hours per semester at an accredited Oklahoma post-secondary institution or part-time (half-days) at an Oklahoma technology center;
Provide a resume linking activities, skills, training, and education to their career goal (may use a digital resume builder such as http://okcareerguide.org).
